A Swiss politician was fined 6,500 francs for purchasing a semi-automatic pistol online. According to a local newspaper, Marc Geissler, a member of the municipal council in the town of Buchs, was accused of violating Swiss gun laws when he ordered the pistol in August from a local retailer via the Internet for his son as a gift.
The accusation stems from the fact that the politician paid a fine claiming that the pistols fall under Swiss gun regulations, despite their being semi-automatic and red in color. It was stated in the newspaper report that Geissler admitted he was unaware of the violation, but he agreed to pay the fine as part of the settlement.
