Director of the International Currency Fund Kristalina Georgieva spoke in Davos with a warning about the possible negative consequences of the crisis in Ukraine. According to Georgieva, the conflict in Ukraine has already begun to adversely affect the global economy, causing waves in global financial markets.
"It would be inappropriate to think that this could be the beginning of something significantly worse," Georgieva emphasized, referencing her own experience working in neighboring countries. She noted that geopolitical shocks represent a serious test for the economy, and emphasized the importance of timely and coordinated response from the global community to such challenges.
Georgieva also expressed concern about the possible impact of the Ukrainian crisis on oil prices, as Russia is a major oil producer. At the same time, she urged all conflict participants to strive for a political dialogue and peaceful resolution to the situation in the region.
