The organizers of the World Economic Forum confirmed on Wednesday an incident "related to smoke" during the event, but clarified that the situation was quickly brought under control and at no time posed a risk to participants.
This incident coincided with the presence of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, at the Congress Center where this leaders' meeting is taking place, which sparked speculation and fake news on social media.
A witness, a participant in this meeting, told EFE that he had seen two firefighters carrying extinguishers inside the venue.
In an official statement, the World Economic Forum noted that the incident "was quickly brought under control" and that "the safety of participants has been guaranteed at all times", which is "a fundamental priority".
"We are in close contact with local authorities and the relevant emergency services," the WEF added.
