ICRC President Warns of Global Conflict Impact

According to the words of the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Miryana Spoljaric, currently there are more than 120 active armed conflicts worldwide, which are accompanied by extreme violence, massive destruction, and restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid.

At the launch of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) the official representative of the ICRC warned that future conflicts will replicate the patterns of current wars.

She emphasized the important role of humanitarian efforts in creating conditions for de-escalation and warned about the rising costs of war and the security risks that could arise if international humanitarian law does not receive the necessary attention.

"If the world strives to reduce dependency on aid and prevent delays in development, it is essential to minimize the impact of conflicts on people's lives. At the same time, countless human lives are lost, and the cost of recovery is enormous," - noted Miryana Spoljaric.

In a statement published today, on Friday, in Geneva, Spoljaric added that the cost exceeds economic decline in conflict zones and presents a threat to global market disruptions and undermines world stability.

"The starting point for this is strengthening obligations regarding compliance with the rules of warfare," - she emphasized.
