Massive Fire in Swiss Alps Bar

A massive fire broke out in a bar in the heart of the Swiss Alps in the early hours of today, resulting in numerous casualties, both dead and injured. Emergency services were put on high alert. Police Chief of the Valais canton, Frederic Gissler, stated that he 'believes dozens have died,' noting that around 100 people were injured, some in critical condition. This led to the declaration of a medical state of emergency in the region and the transfer of injured individuals to hospitals outside the canton due to overcrowding of local facilities. The fire erupted in the 'Le Constellation' bar in the resort of Crans-Montana during large crowds celebrating the New Year 2026. While authorities have ruled out an 'attack' hypothesis, Swiss media reported that the use of pyrotechnics inside the venue may have been the cause, as investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances. Police have established a security cordon and a no-fly zone over the resort, a world-renowned tourist destination, suggesting a likely mix of nationalities among the victims. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that its citizens are among the injured.
